BARF: How long has Tompkins Square been in existence for?
TOMPKINS SQUARE: Turned 11 on October 25th, so all our LPs and CDs at BARF will be $11 !
BARF: What inspired you to start your own independent label?
TS: I had worked in the major label system and wanted to bust out on my own, follow my own passions, win on my own terms.
BARF: What’s the label’s most recent release?
TS: Legendary guitarist Harvey Mandel releases his new album on Tompkins Square on November 18th ! (We'll have it exclusively in advance at BARF !)
BARF: Contrary to not so popular belief, the Bay Area’s music scene is alive and well; currently, who’s your favorite local artist/band?
TS: I like Dick Stusso a lot. Lia Rose is fantastic. I like my cousin Ezra Lipp, who plays drums for Phil Lesh !
BARF: What’s the most prized record you own?
TS: That's hard. Probably my first edition Transatlantic Bert Jansch debut LP, signed.
BARF: What are some other labels you admire (and why?)
TS: I like RVNG Intl. They do really interesting reissues with top notch packaging. I like Anthology Recordings for the same reasons.
BARF: Anything else that you’d like to share (music or non-music related!)?
TS: We are honored to share this event with all the other great Bay Area labels. Please come by the Tompkins Square table and say hi !
